Where do people in Artavia, Conroe actually go outdoors? The short answer: Dapple Park inside the community for daily walks and lake time, W.G. Jones State Forest about 10 minutes away for real miles of trail, and Lake Conroe for the bigger water, with a rotating calendar of neighborhood food-truck nights in between. This guide maps all three tiers of outdoor life within reach of 15500 Leopard Lily Ln, and rounds up what is on this fall plus where the current weekend plans are.

What is Dapple Park, and what is inside it?

The outdoor hub of Artavia is Dapple Park, a 13-acre amenity center built around a five-acre lake. The water is the anchor, and it is designed to be used, not just photographed: kayak and paddleboat access from the boardwalk, fishing spots along the edge, and a rain garden for quiet corners.

  • The five-acre lake. A boardwalk rings the water with launch points for kayaks and paddleboats, so the lake is a daily amenity rather than a views-only pond.
  • Clubhouse and fitness. The 24/7 FitCenter gym and the Palate Cafe sit at the park's edge, which makes the morning coffee run double as a walk.
  • Family ground. A splash pad, playground, and event lawn spread across the park, with covered seating for the parents.
  • Trails with art. The wooded paths that thread the park are part of the community's "Live Colorfully" theme, with sculptures and installations placed along the route.

The trail system winds through the wider neighborhood too, so residents can stitch together loops that start and end at home. That is the version of "walkable community" that actually gets used: no car required for the daily walk.

How far is W.G. Jones State Forest from Artavia?

About 10 minutes. The forest, operated by the Texas A&M Forest Service, sits along FM 1488 and covers roughly 1,733 acres with nearly 17 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horses, plus the one-mile Sweetleaf Nature Trail with its swinging bridge. Entry is free, which makes it the default answer for "let's go for a real walk" without booking anything in advance.

Locals pair it with a morning at the community instead of picking one or the other: walk the lake loop at Dapple Park before the heat, then drive the few minutes to the forest for longer trail miles in the afternoon.

Lake Conroe: the bigger water

For boating, paddle sports, and shoreline resorts, Lake Conroe is the regional draw, about 15 to 20 minutes from the neighborhood depending on the ramp. Margaritaville Lake Resort is the most visible base camp on the water, and it anchors several events through the year, including one of the area's signature late-September weekends:

  • 39th annual TOPPS Lake Conroe Thunder Run. Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Margaritaville Lake Resort. (has passed) It is a charity boat poker run on the lake, with a kickoff party and Calcutta auction Friday evening, the main run Saturday, and awards Sunday, benefiting the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Division.

Beyond events, the lake has public parks, day-use areas, and viewpoints scattered along its shoreline, which is why so many Conroe buyers count it as their weekend default.

What is on at the community this season

The neighborhood lifestyle team keeps a steady beat: the First Friday Flamingle social on the first Friday of each month, food-truck nights and family game nights in the third week, and fitness classes in between. In mid-September that rotation brought the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck to the Artavia HOA on Thursday, September 17, and the Conroe Sunday Market to the Conroe North Kroger on the third Sunday, September 20; both of those dates have passed, and the same pattern repeats each month.

For what is on right now, the newest this-week edition plans out October 12-18, from the Sacred Heart Oktoberfest and the Woodlands Wildflower Festival to the Ren Fest "1001 Dreams" weekend (the October 5-11 edition covered the Cajun Catfish Festival and the Ren Fest opening weekend and is archived), while the September 28-October 4 edition covered Lobsterfest and the Lake Conroe Duck Race, and the new Halloween 2026 guide covers the pumpkin-patch, trunk-or-treat, and haunted-house lineup through the end of October. The earlier fall weekend guide for September 26-27 stays up as an archive of that weekend.

The full month-by-month schedule lives on the amenities and lifestyle pages at artaviatx.com, and the resident's guide to the community walks through the rest of the local rhythm in more detail.

What outdoor events are worth the drive this fall?

The outdoor calendar turns busy once P-6 Farms opens its season, and three anchors cover most of the fall:

  • P-6 Farms Fall Festival. Saturdays and Sundays from September 26 through November 8, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 9963 Poole's Rd in Montgomery. You-pick pumpkin patch, a giant corn maze, pig races, hayrides, and photo ops by day, with the 2026 weekend features like Butterfly Release Weekend (October 10-11) and Dueling Pianos with Felix and Fingers (October 16-17) posted on the farm's site.
  • Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival. Friday through Sunday, October 9-11, 2026, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, the big outdoor food-and-music weekend of the fall. (has passed)
  • Artavia Haunted Trails. The community's own Halloween event typically lights the wooded trails in late October, a favorite of residents who want the season without leaving the neighborhood; this year's dates are posted through the resident app and artaviatx.com as they are set.

For the complete late-September through November lineup, plus Artavia's own Autumn Artisan Market on Saturday, November 7, see the fall 2026 events roundup.

Why outdoor space matters when you buy in Artavia

The community trails and the state forest are public, but the yard is yours. 15500 Leopard Lily Ln sits on a 15,540 sq ft cul-de-sac lot, more than double the builder lots listed nearby in Artavia, with a backyard ringed by mature pines and a covered patio that turns the outdoor room into daily living space. When you compare resale against new construction, the lot is the one upgrade you cannot add later, and it is the piece that connects the house to everything this guide covers.

Browse the photo gallery for the backyard and the covered patio, or read the full neighborhood page for schools, commutes, and the local food map. For the 2026 school picture and real drive times, see the schools and commutes guide. To tour the house and walk the Dapple Park loop on the same trip, book a showing with Diane.

Community details confirmed via artaviatx.com and the Artavia HOA event listings; W.G. Jones State Forest facts per the Texas A&M Forest Service; event dates per organizer and venue listings as of September 21, 2026 (community food-truck rotation; TOPPS Lake Conroe Thunder Run; P-6 Farms; Montgomery County events). Hours, menus, and schedules change; confirm directly with each organizer before you go.
